A Note from Dr. Kathy Mills
Mon Apr 28 2025

Dear Friends,
What drew me to RFK Community Alliance—and what keeps me inspired every day—is the people. I’m in awe of the courage and hard work of participants across our programs and the compassion, dedication, and skill of our team. So, as I step into the Interim President and CEO role, I’m listening, learning, and leading with confidence in the people that make up who we are and what we do.
I’ve always believed in the power of people in relationship with one another, the importance of communication, and creating space for people to lead, grow, and make great decisions. I see my job as making sure that our team members feel supported and empowered to do their best work. That’s how we build a culture where everyone has what they need to succeed—and where real, lasting impact happens for the people we serve.
These are principles I’ve believed in and practiced for many years—and that I’ve had the privilege of helping shape from within, most recently as RFK Community Alliance’s Chief Operating Officer, and previously as VP of Innovation and Learning from 2018-2022.
Throughout my 30+ year career in human services—as a direct care staff member, clinician, educator, advocate, and organizational leader—I’ve remained committed to supporting children, families, and individuals navigating complex challenges. I’ve worked with organizations such as Jewish Family & Children’s Service, The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, Massachusetts Children’s Mental Health Campaign, and Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
I’m proud to say that here, at RFK Community Alliance, I have led some meaningful efforts alongside incredible colleagues: creating and launching our Theory of Change, building a robust system to evaluate our impact, creating and implementing the organization’s first diversity, equity, and inclusion survey, and strengthening how we learn, grow, and work together as an organization. Now, I’m also proud to be the first woman to lead the organization.
This work is personal to me—and I feel lucky every day to be part of such a committed and caring community. I’m also grateful for the trust and support of our Board of Trustees and for the ongoing collaboration with my predecessor, Michael W. Ames, PhD, who continues to be a generous thought partner.
Thank you for being part of this special community. I look forward to all we’ll accomplish together in the months ahead. Please know that my door is always open.
Warmly,
Kathy Mills, PhD, LICSW
