How our Adult Services Program and Corcoran House Build Community Together
Nestled in the heart of Clinton, the Corcoran House Assisted Living Facility has a rich history. Originally a school, the building was transformed into a welcoming home for older adults, where the focus is on creating a warm, family-like environment. Residents enjoy a vibrant community where every detail—from meals to activities—is designed to make their experience meaningful and enjoyable.
One of the most unique aspects of Corcoran House is its partnership with RFK Community Alliance’s Adult Services Program. Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, a group of our adult program participants join the Corcoran House team to assist with dining service preparation between breakfast and lunch.
This short window is one of the busiest times for the food service crew, and having the Adult Services Program participants show up for their duties every week makes a big difference.
“It’s extremely helpful,” says Kassy Sanches, Food Service Director at Corcoran House. “We’re like one big family here, and having them involved really strengthens that sense of community.”
For our program participants, these visits are more than just work—they’re opportunities to build confidence, learn new skills, and feel a sense of purpose. When given jobs and tasks like setting tables and preparing dining spaces, it provides them with the opportunity to learn on-the-job skills and capabilities, while contributing to the daily rhythm of life as a part of the Adult Service Program at RFKCA. “Going to work and helping out gives them a purpose,” Kassy explains. “They love being part of the team, and we love having them here.”
The partnership benefits both programs in profound ways. Residents at Corcoran House enjoy seeing new faces and interacting with the participants, and Kassy hopes to expand these connections even further.
"We’d love to see more involvement with our residents. They would really enjoy the company,” she says. This could be anything from local outings with the Corcoran House residents, to arts and crafts or reading groups. These shared experiences foster inclusion, break down barriers, and create a stronger sense of belonging for everyone involved.
“Employment opportunities of all sorts allow our participants to have a meaningful impact on our local community while further honing skills" says Aaron Fill, Vice President of Adult Services. "Opportunities like this are invaluable for our participants and we are sincerely grateful for amazing community partnerships like the Corcoran House.”
This collaboration is a shining example of how community partnerships can enrich lives—bring people together, building skills, and creating moments of joy. At its core, it’s more than setting tables; it’s about setting the stage for connection, purpose, and mutual respect.
