Songs & Smiles

Mike brings his guitar and music book to the CDC, visiting each classroom to share songs. The kids sing, dance, and enjoy their snacks with joyful musical accompaniment. We’re so lucky to have him!

A Note from Dr. Kathy Savage Mills

Joy in Action

Thanks to you, something beautiful is happening at our Child Development Center (CDC). Recently, I had the pleasure of watching some of our youngest program participants beam with joy as they were entertained and cared for by members of our adult programs.

When Mike strums his “hello” song, the children at the CDC light up. Liz, Alec, William, and Abigail—the book club—read stories with playful voices and gestures. And Mandy? She’s a classroom favorite during snack- and play times.

These adults, participants in our Adult Services program, know that their shifts at the CDC are more than a job—they’re joyful, skill-building experiences. Each month, the group contributes 26 hours of work, bringing energy and enrichment to over 75 children under the age of 5 years old.

With support from our team, the adults prepare by practicing songs and reading aloud, allowing them to step into their roles with growing confidence. This special collaboration strengthens both
programs and our entire community.

And beyond their work at the CDC, many of these adults also work alongside peers in local shops, gyms, and an assisted living facility, building independence, pride, and a sense of purpose that comes with earning a paycheck.
