100 Days as President and CEO

Thu Jul 31 2025

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 100 days since I stepped into the role of President and CEO here at RFK Community Alliance. These early days have flown by in the best possible way — filled with visits to our programs and conversations with RFKCA teams, members of our Board of Trustees, as well as our neighbors and community partners. Each interaction has deepened my appreciation for the extraordinary impact we're making together every day.

This deep dive has also helped clarify our priorities for the year ahead. In the nonprofit sector, there is often pressure to grow by expanding programs or serving more people. But growth doesn’t always mean getting bigger. Sometimes, the most impactful step forward is turning inward. That's why our focus this year will be on strengthening the foundation of our existing programs, ensuring they remain strong, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of the people and families we serve for many years to come.

In the months ahead, we’ll be focused on three key priorities:

1. Strengthening our culture
– making sure our values show up in how we support each other, how the organization develops leaders, and how we give every voice space to be heard

2. Reinforcing our infrastructure– building systems and spaces and utilizing technologies that really work for us and the communities that we work within

3. Assessing and strengthening our programs– so we can understand our impact, enhance outcomes for program participants, ensure long-term sustainability, and stay rooted in what our communities need

I’m excited for what’s ahead and incredibly grateful to be part of this mission — alongside all of you. Thank you for your ongoing support, partnership, and belief in our staff and the people we serve. And please don't hesitate to reach out to me personally to discuss anything on your mind.

Now for some fun. To mark these first 100 days, I also wanted to share something I created as a musical toast to our team members. Inspired by an activity led by Dr. Jessica Pepple, this playlist reflects themes of new beginnings, momentum, and community spirit. We hope it brings a smile, a dance break, or even a little inspiration your way.

Warmly,
Kathy Mills, PhD, LICSW
President and CEO
